Choice

It is important to give students choice.  The nature of my classroom allows students to have an extended period of time to create work that has value for them.  The topic of their project is RAMS community..what does it mean to you?  The students have their choice of creating a movie, stop motion animation, web page or blog.  The focus can be funny such as "A day in the life of a middle schooler" or serious including topics such as cyber bullying, stress and anxiety, popularity, and positive choice when faced with peer pressure.

If you give them the opportunity to choose something that is meaningful to them they will be fully engage in the process:
here are what a few students think about being given ownership of their learning...

Alex N. - "Students do better on their strongest and favorite subject"

Nina G.-"Giving students a choice lets them be creative and do something that they enjoy which will make them do better."

Haley C.- "Choices make it easier for students to do well in their classes. Giving choices also helps students be more responsible and make the best choice for their education."

Sarah Q. - " Everyone learns differently, so they need to be able to make a choice that will benefit their learning style and will help them really learn rather than doing something that bores them. It also gives them a chance to make learning fun for them."
